By Hosanna Pennell, Caswell County Year of the Trail Coordinator/ Manager, Piedmont Triad Visitor Center 2023 is officially the Year of the Trail in North Carolina, with all 100 counties encouraged to celebrate the more than 1500 miles of publicly accessible trails, blueways, greenways, footpaths, and the communities they are in. The initiative, drafted into state law during the 2021 session of the NC General Assembly via HB 554, states in part, 'Whereas, trails bring people together, as they not only connect physical locations but also represent the bonds that create communities.
