TRYON, N.C. — Joyce Kimpton doesn't want to see the construction of a 31-mile rail trail on the inactive Saluda Grade railroad line. She fears she could lose much of the backyard of the home on Whitney Avenue where she has lived for the past 46 years. She's not alone. Several property owners in Polk County, N.C., just north of Spartanburg County and the South Carolina state line are against the project.Three nonprofit groups including Conserving Carolina, Upstate Forever and PAL: Play. Advocate. Live Well.
